I have to introduce you to Annalakshmi on the Swan. I cannot recommend this place enough. Annalakshmi is a restaurant located at the Barrack St Jetty in Perth. I looooorrvvveeeeeeee this place! My sister and I discovered this place a few years ago. It’s our little secret gem that many people don’t actually know about.

Annalakshmi is a vegetarian restaurant run by the members of a Hindu sect which (correct me if I am wrong) has the goddess Annalakshmi as their patron god sort of spea. It has amazing Indian vegetarian cuisine. What is really amazing about this place and what I admire about it is that everyone who works there are volunteers, the cooks, the kitchen hands, the wait staff, everyone involved in it. They are all highly skilled professional people who as part of their beliefs volunteer their time and the best thing of all… you pay what you feel like!!!!!!!! Now having said that people do NOT be stingy and take advantage of this make sure that you pay a reasonable amount because it’s hard in this day an age for the volunteers to pay for the location, the food and other ingredients and for you to pay $2.00 that would just be embarrassing! I don’t care if you are a hot shot lawyer or a judge, you can afford more than $5! Especially when you are earning over $500K a year AND you eat more than 1 full plate serving! (Yes… do you notice that my example has some issues with certain people in the community I have seen do this? Ha-ha)

This place is amazing they offer cooking classes (which I plan to take full advantage of!), they have cultural entertainment nights every now and then with Indian dancing performances.

The food is sooo good and they cater for those with a not so well developed palate who cant handle a lot of hot chilli spice. They have really yummy Dahl’s (lentil curries), eggplant curries, potato curry (one of my favourites), and this cabbage stuff that is just ooohh ssoo yummy the dishes change every night so these are just examples and includes dessert, tea, coffee and juice.

I really think everyone should try it, you will get your vegetable shot for the week and you will discover a whole new world of vegetarian cuisine. As you walk up those stairs and the waft of the Indian spices in the air swirl seductively into your nose your mouth will salivate and your tummy will tingle with excitement making you feel like a little kid about to taste some of the most glorious cuisine the world has to offer… If you are scared of spice and heat don’t be! Open your palate and you will open your mind to the world and start seeing it through different eyes… take a chance and try something new!
