Im taking a page out of bearman cartoon’s book and posting the following cartoon:
Australia is known as the land of the aussies…the shrimp on the barbe..crocodile Dundee and such. How did this land come to be? Boat people of course. Geez we are a forgetful bunch crying out about these new boat people coming on to our shores… how dare they huh? well…what goes around comes around…

Love it !!!
Yes we have forgotten our Boat People origins. My paternal G.G.Grandparents were boat people to Tasmania from Ireland in the late 1840’s. G.G. Grandpa was transported for larceny. He had stolen meat in his possession during the great potato famine. My G.G. Grandma was charged with arson, she & another maid burned down their masters house so that earned her a holiday in Tasmania too.
Thanks for the visits to my blog, I have added you to my RSS Reader
ooo thanks tony tone! its right back at ya!
and ill put on my blog hehe when i get home. wow u have a very interesting family history. I should look into mine one day…. *Zzzzzzzz*
The historically recorded ‘first boat people’ arrived when there were around 300,000 indigenous inhabitants and these foreigners were no burden on the taxpayers (if any?) as their labour in the chain gangs paid the Piper.
Today, with over 20 million inhabitants stressing the hell out of this fragile ancient land, (read Tim Flannery) a massive social welfare bill with State Governments/Councils on the verge of bankruptcy, a not going away aboriginal problem, our transport infra-structure in chaos, our used-to-be food baskets polluted with chemical abuse, our farmers walking off the land and much, much, much more, we need to close the gates and do a ‘Mr Fix-it’ before we get overly philanthropic.
We could implement a program that we do a swap, person for person, one in from another country but one out to that country. This would be a fair barter type system and allow our outspoken do-gooder’s to put their money where their mouths are…. they, of course, would head the list of outers!

welcome garth! – i hope you visit again soon. you are very correct in your summation of our present state. I am not particularly happy with the government’s response to the current Oceanic Viking illegals… cannot believe they gave in to blackmail. I believe they have lost the election with one foul swoop.
Hi Susi,
Our governments, take your pick, are hierarchal and certainly not consensual. In other words our elected Pollies ignore election promises and morph them into ‘mandates’ that run parallel to the whims of the Corporate world; (note USA)
I am not a Communist/Socialist/Humanist or any other ‘ist’s’.
The Corporate’s want ‘bums on seats’… they need consumers.
Our Corporate entrepreneur, Mal Turnbull, has suggested that Aus will roll along nicely with around 50 million B.O.Seats.
I offered to mighty Mal to read Tim Flannery’s ” The Future Eaters” but some years later have ceased to anticipate any prevision words of enlightenment from mighty Mal.
Should we then look into the our illustrious free media that keeps telling us that we are racists and…., should we ponder down the ‘rabbit hole’ a little further we find that our press is not so free.
We are the occupants of, probably, the earths most ancient land mass and we must get our bums off the seat otherwise it will become another seething mass of uncontrolled, amoral procreation.
Take care…. GJC
